About
Navajo Nation TV and Film had a successful Inaugural Navajo Nation Short Film Festival! The 2-day film festival featured Navajo film makers and artist to highlight the event. The Navajo Filmmakers Grant Program (NFGP) recipients produced short films with mostly Navajo cast and crew along with at least 80% use of the Navajo language. This was part of a language revitalization effort made possible by 25th Navajo Nation Council and the Navajo Nation TV & Film.
The short films premiered at the Film Festival in Window Rock, AZ at 2 venues; the Navajo Nation Museum and the RGR Theaters. The film festival also feature a filmmaking workshop and a panel Q&A session. The Inaugural event included an evening of live music by Tony Knight Muzik, DJn by SAVEGE and the short films were viewed during an evening of film binge under the stars event with an outdoor screening.
The upcoming 2nd Annual Navajo Nation Film Festival submission on Film Freeway will open early May 2025 close on Mid August 2025. This film festival is open to the public for submissions. Each submission will be reviewed. As the foundation of this film festival is language revitalization, all short film submissions will have preference for elements of Navajo language, culture, cast and crew, however, all other short films are welcome! We are looking forward to seeing your cinematic creations!
